Joey Gudjonsson

Much travelled central midfield who has won 34 caps for Iceland. He started his career with Icelandic side IA Akranes in 1996 making his debut at the age of 17. After just 8 appearances for IA he moved to Belgium to join Racing Genk, but only made a few appearances before joining MVV on loan for a season and then moved on to Dutch side RKC where he once again only spent a season. following that one season at RKC he was sold to Spanish side Real Betis for £3.5 but first team chances were again to prove elusive. It was during his 3 years at Betis that he got his first taste of English football as he was loaned out to both Aston Villa and Wolverhampton Wanderers. After his Betis contract expired he moved permanently to England as he joined Leicester City where he first showcased he shooting prowess by scoring from half way against Hull City. After two years at The Walkers Stadium he was on the move once again as he joined Dutch side AZ Alkmaar, but his spell in Dutch football only lasted 6 months before he returned to England to join Burnley in January 2007. He was a main stay in the Burnley side that earned promotion to the top flight, but found himself a bit part player during their following relegation. His left Burnley on a sour note having openly questioned team spirit under Brian Laws which resulted in him not playing for Burnley again as well as a two week suspension.
