Damien Johnson

Tough tackling midfielder signed on a season long loan from Plymouth Argyle. He came to England when Blackburn Rovers signed him as a trainee from Northern Irish side Portadown FC in 1997 and spent five years at Ewood Park, during which he had a loan spell at Notts Forest. It was during this time that Johnson received his first international cap for Northern Ireland, making his debut as a sub in a 1-0 win south of the border. In 2002 Steve Bruce paid out £50,000 to sign Johnson for Birmingham City, where over the next 8 years he established himself in the Birmingham side that reached and stayed in the Premier League. in January 2010 he had he contract with Birmingham cancelled to allow him to join Championship struggler’s Plymouth Argyle, however after just 8 months in to his spell at Home Park he was allowed to join Town on loan. Shortly before joining Town he announced his international retirement.
