Taken from Leyton Orient’s official site:

Exit M25 at junction 27 and follow signs to `London (NE), M11′ onto the M11 southbound.
After 7.1 miles where the road divides, bear right (s/p A406 N. Circ. Rd West, London N and W) onto the North Circular Road.
Keep in left hand lanes and take first exit after 0.6 miles (s/p Walthamstow and City A104, then Whipps Cross A104, West End (A503)).
At roundabout turn left (s/p Whipps Cross, Bakers Arms, Walthamstow A503) into Woodford New Road A104. At next roundabout (Whipps Cross) after 1.2 miles, take 2nd exit (s/p A104 Bakers Arms, Leyton) and follow road round to left, towards BP station, into Lea Bridge Road.
After 0.5 miles, just after Esso station, turn left at lights (s/p Leyton, Stratford, then Leyton Leisure Lagoon) into Leyton Green Road.
Filter left after 0.3 miles and turn left at T-junction into Leyton High Road. After 1.2 miles ground is down sidestreets on RHS.

The distance from the Galpharm Stadium is 169.9 miles and will take around 3 hours 40 to get there.

This will take the total distance travelled for this season to 1097.8 miles.

For those with sat nav the postcode for the ground is E10 5NF

Parking

Spitalfields market is no longer available for car parking as the City Of London deemed this to be a change of purpose for the market and put a stop to it, so it is now purely street parking. (Cheers to Ellie for this info)

How To Get There…By Coach

Terrier Travel

The official club coaches depart from outside the Fantastic Family Stand at 0800 and costs £20

Huddersfield Town Supporters Association

The HTSA coach also departs from outside the Fantastic Family Stand at 0800 and costs £16 for members, while non members can travel for an extra £2. For more information call Sally on 07926 165863 between 8am – 8pm.

The SapphireBlue Pub Guide

Another London trip brings us to the venue of Dean Hoyle beer giveaway Part 2, a couple of seasons ago, although we can do so, so much better for somewhere to drink than the : -

Unofficial Away Pub

The Coach and Horses is very close to the ground on the High Street. It gets very busy, even if free beer is not available, but, no real ale here and not a chance of food. However if Town fans are in full voice the atmosphere is cracking!

You know what to expect in a ‘Spoons

There is a Spoons 1/2 a mile away straight down Leyton High Road (past the ground from the tube station) called the Drum. We found this place the time the Central line was suspended and we came up via Walthamstow. It’s ok. The Hamilton Hall, however, is a cracking place. At the entrance to Liverpool Street Station, it is worth meeting there before travelling out to Leyton. Mind the tables though, very weak, we once saw one of them give way under the weight of a slip of a lad. Good banter with fans from other London clubs can usually be enjoyed. Passing tourists start taking photos.

At the ground

There is no alcohol on sale to visiting fans within the ground, but …

Sapphire Choice

… at the ground is the Orient Supporters Club. Simply the best supporters club in the football league (and premiership). Five real ales on a matchday, only £1 in (I blagged in for free with my CAMRA card last season), friendly, food available, everything you could want from a supporters bar. If only the Gas Club was this good there would be no need for the Eden. Another fine pub nearby is the Birkbeck Tavern. Found by going the “wrong” way from the tube station and going left down some steps after the road bridge over the tube lines. Follow Goodall Road round to Langthorne Road and you will happen on the pub on the right. With a house beer, Rita’s Ale, brewed by Courage available at £2.35 a pint last season, if the weather is fine, a good beer in a very well kept beer garden is a fine place to meet old friends – see you there Sid.

P.S. Don’t forget, all you Euston travellers, or even Kings Cross (Only 1/4 of a mile or so and better than the Euston Flyer) another opportunity to visit the Bree Louise (100yds from Euston station on Cobourg Street. Twenty casks on here – perfect end to a London trip

The Ground…Brisbane Road

The ground has had a lot of work done to it over the past few years. Three of the stands have been replaced with the usual box shaped all seater stands, as well as blocks of flats built in all four corners of the ground. Town fans are housed in the last remaining stand, The Main Stand, which is to the right of this picture. This stand is all seated and there are a few pillars in view (a tradition at this level), but also has views in to the flats built in the corner of the ground which can provide it’s own distractions!! This part of the Main Stand holds up to 1,000 fans.

The Referee…Andy D’Urso

Billericay based Premier League referee Andy D’Urso is the man in charge this Saturday. He is in his 14th season as a referee and has taken charge of 4 games, handing out 8 yellows and 1 red card (Shrewsbury’s Matt Harold). He first came to prominence after awarding a penalty against Manchester United at Old Trafford which saw him chased by the Man United players, as pictured above. This season he took charge of his first Premier League game (Aston Villa 3 West Ham 0) since 2005 following a failure to send off Blackburn Rovers Barry Ferguson for a second yellow card in a 2-2 draw at St Marys. His past Town games include:

1997/98 – Town 1 West Bromwich Albion 0 (The completion of The Great Escape)
2005/06 – Town 1 Swindon Town 1 & Town 2 Doncaster Rovers 2
2006/07 – Town 1 Scunthorpe United 1

The Opposition…Leyton Orient

The Form & The Goals

5th bottom Orient have managed just the 1 win so far this season and are out of the drop zone on goal difference. Their only win came in their last home game, 3-0 against Exeter City. Summer signing Alex Revell leads the scoring with 3 goals.

Last Time At Brisbane Road

Leyton Orient 0 Huddersfield Town 2 – Coca-Cola League One (20th March 2010)

Only six months since our last trip to Leyton and it turned out to be a very comfortable afternoon for Town. Jordan Rhodes gave Town a 26th minute lead before Theo Robinson sealed the 3 points in the 68th. Town lined up that afternoon as:

Alex Smithies, Lee Peltier, Dean Heffernan, Neal Trotman, Peter Clarke, Gary Roberts, Anthony Pilkington, Michael Collins,Danny Drinkwater, Jordan Rhodes, Theo Robinson.

Subs: Antony Kay (on for Jordan Rhodes), James Berrett (on for Gary Roberts), Tom Clarke (on for Michael Collins), Nathan Clarke, Robbie Williams, Simon Eastwood, Krystian Pearce.

Only 10 of that 18 man squad are still at Town just 6 months later on.

Leyton Orient…Timeline

1881 – formed as part of the Glyn Cricket Club to allow members something to do during the winter months
1886 – renamed as Eagle Cricket Club
1888 – renamed once again as they become Orient Football Club on the suggestion of a player who worked for the Orient Shipping Line
1898 – yet another name change as they become Clapton Orient
1937 – move to Leyton.
1945 – become Leyton Orient for the first time
1956 – win Division Three South, finishing 1 point ahead of Brighton & Hove Albion
1962 – promoted to top division for first time in their history, finishing runners up to Liverpool in the Second Division
1963 – their only top flight season ends with them finishing bottom by 10 points.
1966 – drop the Leyton from the name to become Orient
1970 – win Division Three, finishing 2 points ahead of Luton Town
1977 – finish runners up in the Anglo Scottish Cup, losing 5-1 to Nottingham Forest in the 2 legged Final
1978 – have best run in FA Cup, reaching the Semi Finals before losing 3-0 to Arsenal at Stamford Bridge.
1987 – one final name change as they revert back to Leyton Orient FC

Once again over optimistic predictions mean not many points handed out. Out of 72 entries only 2 went against a Town win and both of those got the 2-2 scoreline spot on. Those 5 points see mk22 move up 22 places and terrier 19 move up a massive 34 places as they both take advantage of the miserly scoring.

Town first met AFC Bournemouth, which in an earlier life was known as Bournemouth & Boscombe Athletic, in the middle of The Great Slide in 1973/74.

The first series of meetings in Divisions 3 and 4, as they accompanied Town down into the basement, were not auspicious for the Terriers. In the first 4 seasons not one win was earned, there were 4 home draws 3 0-1 away defeats with a 1-1 draw in the second meeting.

After this things brightened up and, after two further away defeats and two home wins Town did the ‘double’ in the promotion season of 1979/80 triumphing 2-0 at Leeds Road and 3-1 away.

Since then AFCB won the ‘double’ in Divison 3 in 1990/91 beating Town 3-1 in both games. Since then AFCB has won only one game, that being at Leeds Road in 1992/93 when the Cherries won 1-0. From then on Town has been by far the better side. In 1993/94 the sides drew 1-1 at the Mac on 3rd January 1994 and then Town won five games straight. Later that season the away game was won 2-1. Then came two ‘doubles’, the first in 1994/95 3-1 and 2-0 and then, in the new Division 1 1-0 and 3-2 in 2001/02. Last season the winning run ended with a 2-2 draw away. This signalled a down turn in Town’s fortunes as the side had 2 away defeats and 2 home draws until the return match which the Terriers won 3-2. This was followed by another 5 away defeats. During this time the home record was 2-1-0 4-2. Then came the magnificent end of season run in.

There has been one successful FA Cup meeting, in Round 3 in 1997/98 when Town won 2-0 away in front of 7,385 spectators.

Strangely the best away gate was the first ever game between the sides. The best home gate was the game at home in 2005/06 when 13,522 turned up; this beat the previous best by over 2,000. The worst gate at home was a nothing final day game in 1977-78 which Town won 2-0 thanks to Goldthorpe and Holmes(P). Town finished 11th in Division 4 that year. 2004/05 produced the second best away gate of 8,448 and third best home gate of 9,754.

In 2005/06 at home Town threw away 2 points. After running the show in the first half they let the Cherries off the hook by giving away a daft penalty and then not closing them down. In the return fixture Fletcher scored for the home side in the first half and GTF saved a point for Town with an equalizer in the last quarter.

The next season at home Town twice came back from behind at home to finish with a 2-2 draw (GTF, Beckett). The away fixture brought a Town win, 2-1, with Worthington and Schofield (who came on as a sub) scoring for the Terriers.

Early on in 2007/08 Town won a great away win when Beckett scored the only goal just before half time. It was a notable win because Town had to field a makeshift team with Mirfin, Schofield, Cadamarteri and Sinclair all unavailable. The return fixture ended with the same score, this time Phil Jevons scoring the all important goal to give Town its first double of the season and fourth against AFCB. The Cherries were relegated at the end of the season.

Promoted in second place in 2009/10 the Cherries have made a reasonable start to the season. Losers at the Valley 0-1 on opening day they thrashed the Posh at home 5-1 then won 3-0 at Prenton Park but lost a 3-0 lead by conceding 2 injury time goals to draw 3-3 with the Magpies who easily won Div 4 last season by 10 points. Currently ahead of Town on goal difference (11-5 +6 against 8-5 +3) it promises to be a tough game. After a bad patch in the late 80s and early 90s when Town lost 3 out of 4 home fixtures the Terriers have now gone 7 without defeat at the MacGalph 4-3-0 13-8. If they turn in as good a performance as last week they should win again with a 2-0 score.

Hostilities began in 1936/37 in the League when the Addicks were promoted to Division 1. From then until 1969/70, apart from the War Years the only blank seasons were 1952/53 when the Terriers were in Division 2 and1956/57 when Town had been relegated the previous season.. Charlton fell the following season and the sides met every year until Town was promoted in 1969/70. We met again during the Great Slide when Town stayed in Division 3 for 2 years. The teams met again in Division 3 in 1980/81 and yet again for 3 years beginning in 1983/84 in Division 2. We have met in only 4 seasons since in Division 1 (old Div 2) in 1995/96-1997/98 and finally in 1999/2000.

The first match was actually an FA Cup 3rd Round tie in 1925/26 which Town won 1-0 at The Valley in front of 21,184 fans. Roy Goodall scored from a penalty.

The League start was less satisfactory as the Addicks won the first of 5 “doubles”, winning at Leeds Road 2-1 on 5th December 1936 (Richardson – gate 11,609) and 1-0 on their own turf 10th April 1937 – gate 24,995. The Addicks finished runners up to Manchester City while Town languished in 15th place. The following season was not much better as the games ended 1-1 at home and 0-4 away. Next season saw Town finally win a game; after losing 1-2 at The Valley on15th October 1938 – Price – gate 28,038 revenge was gained at Leeds Road on 18th February 4-0 (Price, Hayes(P), Mills and Barclay – gate 16,163). Immediately after The War, in 1946/47 Town won its first “double” with the best results ever against Athletic. At Leeds Road on 2nd November the score was 5-1 (Rodgers(3), Bateman and Glazzard – gate 16,944), this was the only time Town has scored more than 4 goals at home against these opponents. The return match on 8th March ended 3-0 (Thompson, Bateman and Doherty – gate 27,805); this was the best ever win away from home. After that until Town was relegated at the end of 1951/52 Town won only 2 games at home 2-1 in 1949/50 (my final year at Oakes Elementary) and 1-0 in the relegation season the other 3 games went 0-1-2 2-4. Away only 2 draws were gained, 0-0 in 1947/48 and 2-2 in 1949/50. In Fact the 2-1 win in 1949/50 started Town on its best ever home run against Charlton. The 10 meetings beginning then saw Town win 6 and draw 4. This run came to a crashing halt in 1961/62 with a 0-2 loss, yet the away game season was won 2-0. The next 9 home games ended up with a record for Town of 6-2-1 17-5 with 2 wins 4-1 and one by 4-0. Town actually won its two other “doubles in that sequence, 4-1 and 2-1 in 1966/67 and 4-0 and 2-1 in the Championship winning season of 1969/70. Charlton’s other doubles have come, with Town home games first, in 1948/49 2-1, 3-1, 1974/75 3-1, 1-0, 1985/86 2-0, 3-0 and finally in 1997/98 3-0, 1-0. The 1948/49 match at the Valley was watched by the best gate ever totalling 38,437 on 28th August.

In the 3 year stay back in Division 1 Town won at home 4-1, drew 0-0 in front of the best ever home gate of 26,996 and won 4-0 in the relegation season. The away games were all lost 1-2, 1-2 and 1-4. When the Addicks followed Town down into Division 2 at the end of 1956/57 the next meetings provided an amazing match up. On opening day Bain, Simpson and Taylor scored in a 3-3 draw at Leeds Road. Then on 21st December came the game for the history books. Town led 5-1 at The Valley with only 20 minutes left then the Terriers fell apart and of the 7 (SEVEN) goals scored in the final 20 minutes Athletic claimed 6 of them. Leading 6-5 and finally winning 7-6 they condemned Town to be the only side in League history to score 6 goals and lose! I was amazed when I heard the score on the BBC and horrified when I read the match report in the Examiner. It did not get better in the only other FA Cup meeting, again in the 3rd Round. 20,223 turned up at Leeds Road to see Law and Massie score in a 2-2 draw. The replay four days later ended up 0-1 in front of 26,637. Having missed the 13 goal thriller the TV cameras were at the Valley the next season but they saw only 3 goals in a 2-1 (Massie) win for the Addicks on 27th December. Town had won by a score of 1-0 at home on Christmas Day with Howard scoring.

Since the 1969/70 promotion season Town has not fared too well in the contest. At home the record is only a poor 3-2-5 10-14 and away an even poorer 3-1-6 10-15.

Who will likely forget the last home fixture on 28th December 1999? Town was flying high but came unstuck 1-2 with Stewart scoring in the losing cause. We did not know it at the time but that was effectively the end of Town’s promotion bid and they slid down the table to finish 8th and out of the play-offs. Some sort of revenge was gained at the Valley on 14th April when Town won 1-0 (Wijnhard) but it was too little too late.

The first meeting in this century in 2009/10 did not go well for Town. The lads played quite well but, as usual, defensive slips cost the game. Two silly goals given up with only a Pilkington free kick to show in a 1-2 defeat. The return game was a fairly poor affair. Town had failed to win in 5 home games, had not beaten a top 6 side and the Addicks had failed to beat a top 6 side in their travels. Inevitably it ended up as a 1-1 draw. After Rhodes gave Town the lead they switched off and the Addicks duly equalised.

The Addicks have started well this season, undefeated and having conceded only 2 goals. Town unfortunately still suffer from the perennial disease of making silly defensive errors and have leaked 9 goals in 2 games, admittedly 5 coming against Greedy League opposition. Since the great double in the 1969/70 promotion year results against Charlton have been poor both home and away. At home Town has a record of 3-3-5 11-15. Seemingly without a clear plan B it will be tough on Saturday I think a 1-1 draw is likely.

Everton is a club 30 years older than Town, having been formed in 1878. Strangely enough Everton actually occupied Anfield from 1883 to 1891 and moved to Goodison Park the following season when Liverpool was formed and took over Anfield. The first ground was Stanley Park for 4 years then Priory Road for 2 years. The club is locally known as The Toffees presumably because of Everton Toffees.

All league games between Town and Everton have been in Division 1 except for 1952/53. Everton were relegated at the end of 1950/51 and Town followed them the next season. The two fixtures were notable because the Easter Tuesday home match (gate 30,721) was famous and could be called the Glazzard Metcalfe match as Jimmy nodded in 4 of Vic’s centres in the 8-2 thrashing of the Toffees. Davie, Metcalfe himself, Gunn and Cavanagh were the other Town scorers that day. This was Town’s highest post WWII score and I am proud to say “I WAS THERE”. The Monday match at Goodsion had been lost 1-2.

Hostilities began in 1920/21 when Town entered Division 1 and the first two years were not good for Town. The very first game was at Leeds Road on 9th October 1920. The estimated gate was 26,500 and Town lost 0-1. The return match was one week later and this time the result was 0-0 with an estimated 50,000 watching. Town finished 17th and Everton 7th. Next season was much worse. Sammy Wadsworth(P) and Billy Smith scored for Town as the Toffees won easily 6-2 (est 40,000). Four days later Eveton completed the double at Leeds Road 2-1 Frank Mann scoring in the losing cause (est 20,000).

The season next Town won a bit of revenge by themselves completing the double over the Toffees. This time it was 3-0 at Goodsion Park (Mann(2), Byers) on 30th December 1922 and a week later 1-0 at Leeds Road (C.Wilson) gates, still only estimated were 20,000 and 17,500.

In 1929/30 Everton suffered its first of only two relegations from the top flight finishing 22nd on 35 pts even though they had beaten Town at Leeds Road in the 41st match 2-1.

Town has won only 8 times at Goodison Park but the wins have produced 6 doubles, the first noted above and then, 1924/25 both 2-0, 1925/26 3-0, 3-2 and once more in the 20s in 1928/29 3-1 at home and 3-0 away. The final two doubles came in the 1930s, 1933/34 both 1-0 and lastly 1935/26 2-1 and 3-1.

For their part the Toffees have won 4 doubles, the first already detailed and then 1936/37 3-0 at Leeds Road and 2-1 on home turf. The next came, oddly enough in their relegation season of 1950/51 3-2 at Goodsion Park on opening day where yours truly attended with my dad among 51,768 (best gate ever at either ground) and at Leeds Road 2-1. Everton were 22nd on 32 points having the worst goal average of 3 teams and Town finished just above in 19th place on 36 points.

Town’s brief return to the top flight in 1970-1972 produced poor results, 1-1 at Leeds Road on 5th December 1970 (Worthington-gate 27,658) and 1-2 at Goodison on 6th February 1971 (Worthington-gate 37,213). In the start of the Great Slide both games ended up as draws 27th December 1971 2-2 away (Worthington, J J Lawson) and 1st April 1972 at home 0-0.

The worst gates came in 1935/36 at home when Town completed its last double when only 3,404 bothered turning up to watch Town win 2-1 (Chester, Lythgoe). The lowest gate at Goodison would find a lot of teams green with envy to draw so many, when only(!) 15,561 saw the Toffees trounce Town 4-0 on 23rd March 1955.

Prior to this season somewhat surprisingly the only time the sides have met in any cup competition was the League Cup 2nd round match up in 1998/99 the home game ended up 1-1 (the Chief scoring for Town) but the return game went Everton’s way 2-1 with Stewart hitting the onion bag in a losing cause.

This time around I think that the Greedy League side will be too powerful for Town, particularly after the shambles last Saturday and expect Town to bow out 0-3.

A welcome break from the League as we head to Goodison Park in the next step on the Road To Wembley….

Destination: Goodison Park, Liverpool
Competition: League Cup 2nd Round
Date: Wednesday 25th August 2010
Kick-off: 2000

Ticket News

Town have been given 6000 tickets for this game and they are now on general sale from the Town ticket office priced as:

£12 adults
£9 seniors
£6 juniors

How To Get There…By Car

The easiest way to get to the ground is to take the East Lancs Road (A580) in to Liverpool and continue forward until you reach the ground. (Thanks to numbers for that!)

The official line from Everton is:

From the M62, exit Junction 6 onto the M57, go to the end of the motorway and then left onto the A59 Ormskirk Road. Continue along as the road becomes Rice Lane, and over the roundabout into County Road. Three quarters of a mile along County Road, turn left into Spellow Lane, and then left into Goodison Road. Goodison Park is on the right.

The distance from the Galpharm Stadium to Goodison Park is 59.1 miles taking just over an hour to get there.

This trip will take our total mileage for this season to 758 miles.

For those with Sat Nav the postcode for the ground is L4 4EL

Parking

For early arriver’s there is street parking around Goodison, otherwise head towards Anfield or Stanley Park.

How To Get There…By Coach

Terrier Travel

The official coaches leave from outside the Fantastic Family Stand at 1645 and costs £12 each.

Huddersfield Town Supporters Association

SOLD OUT

HTSA Heavy Woollen

The Heavy Woollen branch of the HTSA are also running a coach to this game. They will be setting off at 5pm from Barclays Club on North Road in Ravensthorpe and costs £10 adults and £5 children. To book contact John Robb on 01924 525357 or email j-robb1@sky.com

The SapphireBlue Pub Guide

About a 15 walk from the ground Walton Road seems to be the place to go for a few pre-match bevies. All the quaint terraced streets at the back of the main stand lead to the A59 County Road. Turn left and after the Barlow Lane junction the road is renamed Walton Road. Opposite Aldi on the right hand side of the road is the Thomas Frost. Local ‘Spoons outlet so you know what you are going to get in here. If this is a little full you could try walking a little further to Bardleys Wine Bar, which isn’t a wine bar at all but a rather fine family run boozer with real ale available, including the house beer Bradley’s Best Bitter, brewed by an un-credited brewer (I think it may be Cains). Only 50 yards or so further along on the other side of the road. Outside Goodison itself, the Spellow and the Wilmslow Hotel are available for sensible away fans but I have no info on the quality of the real ale, if any. Alcohol is on sale in the ground (Changs of course) and Liverpool City Centre has hundreds of places to drink good ale. Unfortunately train times are against us on this trip so most of us will be arriving in motor vehicles. One place to consider then is the Strawberry Tavern, more normally associated with a trip to Anfield, this pub is about 2 miles from Goodison. Oakwell Barnsley Bitter (the REAL Barnsley Bitter, not the Acorn copy) is always on sale here, along with a fine dish of scouse with pickled red cabbage. The natives (all comedians of course) will all be quite friendly as we are playing the bitter blues today.

The Ground…Goodison Park

One of the last few remaining Premier League grounds with a bit of character about it. The 40157 capacity ground has been home to Everton since it was completed in 1892. The Grand Old Lady has hosted more top flight games than any other ground in England and in the Bullens Road Stand has one of the few remaining examples of the work of renowned football stadium architect Archibald Leitch. Town fans are housed in the Bullens Road Stand, the age of the ground does show as leg room is cramped and there are plenty of pillars in view.

The Referee….Neil Swarbrick

Lancastrian Neil Swarbrick is the man in charge for this cup tie. He is in his 6th season as a Football League referee and has so far officiated 3 games, handing out 12 yellow cards and has yet to send anyone off. His previous Town games are:

2005/06 – 4-1 FA Cup win over Welling and the 1-1 draw at Rotherham
2006/07 – 3-0 home drubbing by Brighton (sending off Danny Adams) and the 3-2 home win over Swansea City (sending off Lee Trundle so he’s not all that bad)
2007/08 – 2-0 defeat at Crewe
2009/10 – that 7-1 win over Brighton and the 3-3 draw at home to Tranmere

The Opposition…Everton

The Form & The Goals

This lot have even less form to go at with this being just their 3rd game of the season! After their opening two Premier League fixtures they find themselves in 16th place following a 1-0 defeat at Blackburn and Saturdays 1-1 draw with Wolves at Goodison. Tim Cahill leads the scoring charts after netting in the first half against Wolves.

Last Time At Goodison Park

Everton 2 Huddersfield Town 1 (League Cup Second Round Second Leg)

After the first leg at the McAlpine finished all square at 1-1, Town went to Goodison with all to play for and couldn’t have asked for a better start as Marcus Stewart put Town in front after just 43 seconds! Town held the lead until the half hour mark when Olivier Dacourt equalised before Marco Materazzi put Everton ahead just before half time. Materazzi ended up being dismissed after 70 minutes but Town couldn’t force the equaliser. Town lined up that night as:

Nico Vaesen, Steve Jenkins, Rob Edwards, Andy Morrison, Kevin Gray, Sam Collins, Paul Dalton, Barry Horne, Grant Johnson, Marcus Stewart, Ben Thornley.

Subs: Steve Francis, David Beresford (on for Paul Dalton), Paul Barnes (on for Andy Morrison), Jon Dyson, Marcus Browning

Everton Timeline

1878 – Formed as St Domingo’s for the people of St. Domingo’s Methodist Church could play sport outside of the cricket season.
1879 – Become Everton FC so that people outside the parish could play for the club.
1884 - Move to Anfield.
1888 – Founder member of the Football League, finishing 8th in the inaugural season.
1891 – Crowned League Champions for the first time, finishing 2 points clear of Preston North End.
